Model Question and Answers for APSC | ‘China is using its economic relations and positive trade surplus as tools to develop potential military power status in Asia’, In the light of this statement, discuss its impact on India as her neighbour

Ans: China's economic reform, which started in 1978, has led to growth rates in the double digits. In 2001, the country joined the World Trade Organization, which made it easier for China to fit into the world system and made it even more of a manufacturing hub. China became the country with the second-largest military budget in the world because of its trade surplus. The Belt and Road initiative, which started in 2013, gave China more power and made it the strongest military power in Asia.

Impact on India as her neighbour:

  • It's a security risk for India, especially in the northern and northeastern border areas.
  • The fact that China is building infrastructure along the border is not a good sign for keeping the peace between the two
  • It has always tried to stop India from having a voice at the international level, like by trying to stop India from joining the countries.
  • China's economic ties with nearby countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh put diplomatic pressure on India. India's security is at risk because of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
  • China recently said that it would remove a 97% tariff that Bangladesh pays. From a diplomatic point of view, it doesn't make India happy either.
  • China grew its ties with South Asian countries faster than India did.

India has never stood back and let China do whatever it wanted. It is also working to make its military units stronger by giving them new equipment, using new technology, and working with other countries. At the moment, it is focusing on its relationships with other global powers like Israel, Russia, and the U.S., as well as on becoming self-sufficient, in order to strengthen its position on the world stage and put diplomatic pressure on China.
